Through My Eyes

With the season's work in the Grove beginning I haven't a lot more completed yet on the sculpture of Tara Drolma. I did do a bit of research on
Tibetan gems and jewelry though. I've yet to find pictures of zhi  although I've discovered it may be a form of topaz. Gems are used a lot in Tibetan medicine as we know and are used in a few different ways to impart healing energy to balance the vital forces when needed.  Sometimes they are presented to the patient to look at, or given to hold. Other times they are heated to a high temperature then ground into a fine powder which can be mixed with alcohol or water to create a healing liquid. The healing techniques using gems are from the Indian ayurveda medical system. One account I read even described leaving the gems whole and soaking them for days then using the liquid.  Coral and Turquoise are highly valued by Tibetans as we know as they are by other native peoples. Coral is described as one of the treasures of Buddhism and Turquoise was worn by Tibetans throughout their lifetimes and is often used by Tibetans to describe lakes and skies. The strong blue color without any veins is most valued and it is often given as a betrothal gift. It and other Tibetan gems are even used in dyes and Yeshe Tsogyel Padmasambhava were said to use them  for pigments. These were certainly used for a shamanic purpose for their energy as well as their color!
