Through My Eyes

Continuing work on the sculpture of Tara Drolma!  I've been working more on the arms and hands to resmooth the surfaces and do a bit more modelling to prepare the sculpture for casting. I've allowed the clay to dry a bit lately by leaving the towels off so it is easier to work on the surface finish. Also when the weather is warmer the towels tend to mildew as I mentioned.

It is somewhat difficult to do the surface finish as the clay scratch tool I use is somewhat small and doesn't span the lower portions as easily . Patience helps with all such things however! Slow careful work in short sessions like this is ideal when you've been to the dentist to have a couple of wisdom teeth pulled out! I don't know why they call them "wisdom teeth" since they tend to get jammed and twisted up as they grow in. Getting them out is sort of a fascinating business so I found myself distracted by the process which makes the uncomfortable aspects easier to ignore. I am very fortunate though- in Tibet there is very little access to modern medical care and the traditional practitioners are few and far between. We can learn more about a program that helps here!  Rokpa actually means "to serve" in Tibetan which is exactly what a being such as Tara Drolma does of course.
